Q: What is electronic discovery or e-discovery?
A: Electronic discovery is the collection, preparation, review and production of electronic documents in litigation discovery. This includes e-mail, attachments, and other data stored on a computer, network, backup or other storage media. E-discovery includes metadata, or data typically stored electronically that describes characteristics of ESI (electronically stored information), found in different places in different forms, which can be supplied by applications, users or the file system. Metadata can describe how, when and by whom ESI was collected, created, accessed, modified and how it is formatted.
